Ute Simon grew up in Southern Germany and was artistically inspired by her beautiful environment since she was very young. She studied graphic design with emphasis on illustration in Mainz, Germany and spent a year in abroad studying illustration. After school she got side tracked and worked in the dot com business for a awhile before going back to post grad studies at the Academy of Art College (now University) in San Francisco. With a couple of awards under her belt she went on to work as a freelance illustrator and painter. She worked on everything from books and murals to prop design and paintings on cakes, her most featured one being Oprah Winfrey's 50th Birthday cake. For the last few years book illustrations have been keeping her busy and she has published children's and non-fiction books in the US, all over Europe and in China. She left the eternal summer of Los Angeles and now works from the beautiful foothills of the eastern Sierra Nevada by Reno.
