Hanson made his first indelible mark on the art scene early in his career with a series of wildly popular illustrations called The School Boy. Since then, his art has graced the covers and pages of magazines like Canoe, Dust and A.20. As a senior graphic designer for BBnZ’s, he pushed artistic boundaries. He produced brilliant work for the likes of DJ Juls’, Fokn Bois, EL and Efya, while setting a new benchmark for album art in music industries across Africa.
As Hanson’s talents matured, his career saw a rise in collaborations with high-profile creators like TV producers (e.g. The Foodies), children’s book writers (e.g. Ekuba and Spidey), organizers of acclaimed events (e.g. AFROCHELLA; DETTY RAVE), and celebrated brands (e.g. Fanice ‘Art of Freedom Challenge’). He has also hosted his own solo exhibits (Stargate Odyssey; Hip-Life), using the opportunities to showcase his unique aesthetic sensibilities.
Hanson’s work has received international recognition. He was featured in festivals (e.g. Re:publica Digital Culture Festival), residencies (e.g. Seven Stories exhibition), campaigns (e.g. Reclaiming Public Space - Flat 70; Culture Shift 101 - The Big We), and publications (Canopee Africa; Shado Magazine) in the UK.
Above all else, Hanson reveres the perpetuity of culture, and envisions an Africa that is as enamored with its present as it is with its past. He creates in service of this vision.
